Cockatoo Lake Recreation Reserve

Where is it?: Cockatoo Lake Recreation Reserve is situated on Grubbed Road, Keppoch approximately 19km SSE of Padthaway or 29km NE of Naracoorte

About: Cockatoo Lake Recreation Reserve is a popular recreational area with picnic tables and toilets. Camping and parking is free. There are fixed fire places subject to fire restrictions. There is a boat ramp for fishing, skiing and yabbying on the lake. The site is pet friendly provided pets are on a leash.

Owner: Crown Land managed by Naracoorte Lucindale Council

Property summary: Total area c. 50 hectares. Hundred of Lochaber – Sections 322, 346 and 347; Hundred of Glen Roy – Section 399¹.

History: Section 322 was declared a Recreation Reserve under the care, control and management of the District Council of Naracoorte on 13 January 1955². Sections 347 and 399 were declared a Public Recreation Reserve under the care, control and management of The District Council of Naracoorte on 27 March 1986³ and Section 346 on 8 October 1986⁴

Landscape Management Region: Limestone Coast

Habitat: Scattered River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) are found around the lake. The lake is seasonal and the water level is dependent on rainfall.

Total Species Recorded to Date: 110 (non-passerines 60, passerines 50)

Common Species: Eurasian Coot, Little Corella, Long-billed Corella, Pacific Black Duck, Laughing Kookaburra, Whistling Kite

Less Common Species: Blue-billed Duck, Hardhead, Australasian Darter, Little Grassbird
