Montecollina Bore, Strzelecki Track

Where is it?: Montecollina Bore is off the Strzelecki Track, between Lyndhurst and Innamincka, 220km NE of Lyndhurst. Camping is permitted.

History: Montecollina Bore was drilled in 1903 and is on the Tingana Tingana Station lease. 

Habitat: The dam overflows to form a shallow wetland, surrounded by sandhills. Habitat of the bore-fed wetland includes

  • shrubland – Nitre-bush (Nitraria billardieri), Old-man Saltbush (Atriplex nummularia ssp. nummularia)
  • samphire flat – Ruby Saltbush (Enchylaena tomentosa), Lagoon Spurge (Phyllanthus lacunarius)
  • dunefield – Sandhill Lignum (Duma coccoloboides)

Total Species Recorded to Date: 76 (non-passerines 50, passerines 26)

Common Species: White-headed Stilt, Little Corella, Singing Honeyeater, Chirruping Wedgbill, Willie Wagtail, White-backed Swallow

Less Common Species: Pink-eared Duck, Australian Shelduck, Red-necked Avocet, Eastern Barn Owl, Cockatiel, Pied Honeyeater, Eyrean Grasswren
