Where is it?: Oaklands Wetlands and Oaklands Estate Reserve are situated along Oaklands Road adjacent to the Warradale Army Barracks and the Sturt River / Warriparri at Oaklands Park.

Oaklands ReserveThe Oaklands Education Centre is an exciting, purpose-built home for the partnership between the City of Marion and Flinders University, providing a place for education, research and studies into wetlands, and showcasing the site’s stormwater re-use scheme.1

Parking is available along The Parade West. Public transport is available on Bus Routes 241 or 248 (Adelaide – Marion Centre Interchange) alighting at Stop 22B on Oaklands Road.

Oaklands Reserve, Oaklands WetlandsHistory: The Oaklands Wetland were completed in 2013. The project was a collaboration between the City of Marion and the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board, with additional funding from the Australian Government’s ‘Water for the Future’ program. The wetland enables up to 200 million litres of stormwater to be used for irrigation each year at up to 30 council reserves. This stormwater would have otherwise flowed out to sea.2

Habitat: The area has many old River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis). Another 85,000 new plants have been planted including various sedges and other water loving species. Other species planted include Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha), Gold Dust Wattle (A. acinacea), Lagoon Saltbush (Atriplex suberecta), Berry Saltbush (Atriplex semibaccata), Sticky Goodenia (Goodenia varia) and Twiggy Daisy-bush (Olearia ramulosa).

Total Species Recorded to Date: 60 (non-passerines 54, passerines 16)

Common Species: Eurasian Coot, Pacific Black Duck x *Mallard, Dusky Moorhen, Crested Pigeon, Australasian Swamphen

Less Common Species: Long-billed Corella, Pink-eared Duck, Little Grassbird, Hardhead, Australian White Ibis
